Palliative Care

Palliative Care is provided at Braeside, Greenwich and Neringah Hospitals and at the Northern Beaches Palliative Care Service (a community based service).

Our palliative care provides a comprehensive service for those diagnosed with a life threatening illness when relief from symptoms or pain management may be required.

Our aim is to provide physical, spiritual and emotional comfort, skilled symptom control, good communication as well as support for the family both during the final stages of illness and in the bereavement period.

Patients are admitted to inpatient units for short periods for pain and symptom control and care during the last days of life when care at home is not possible.

Care is provided by a multi-disciplinary team of health professionals who are competent in assessing the needs of each patient.

Inpatient accommodation is spacious with single and four bedded rooms with access to outside garden areas.  Services vary across facilities and include inpatient units, day hospitals, and outpatient clinics and after hours telephone advice for people registered with the palliative care service, and community based services and community assessment.
