Education
We consider continuing education paramount to good professional practice and provide sponsorship opportunities for staff to attend external conferences and seminars. There are generous leave opportunities for staff to pursue continuing education both within the organisation and at external courses and seminars, with support regularly given for sponsored research and development opportunities, including financial assistance for staff that meet the relevant criteria.
Research Grants
Annual research grants are available each year to assist staff in researching areas of interest that are relevant to the services we provide.
Employee Assistance Program
A confidential employee assistance program is available to all staff, and access to this service is also extended to the staff member’s immediate family. This service provides staff and their families with free access to highly experienced and well-credentialed professionals to assist staff with both personal and work related issues. Our EAP provider also assists managers in managing employment relations issues, and assists us in critical incident management, including debriefing and counselling where appropriate.
Flexible Work Practices
Hope Healthcare recognises the potential benefits from flexible work practices that are designed to enable staff to balance their work life and family needs. We support government and area health service views that the provision of more flexible work practices may lead to a more diverse, skilled and motivated workforce, capable of delivering quality and efficient services to the wider community. The flexible work practices options that are available for consideration include varying work hours and days, accrual of Allocated Days Off and Time in Lieu, part time, casual and temporary employment, and extending arrangements such as job sharing.
Access to the corporate email system is available for all staff with network access. Policy applies on reasonable personal use.
Salary Packaging, Salary Sacrificing and Other Benefits
Fringe benefits
Permanent full time and part time employees with contracts for at least 3 months duration are eligible to participate in salary packaging of up to $30,000 grossed up fringe benefits per year. Salary packaging enables employees to sacrifice part of their pre-tax salary to be paid to a range of 'non-cash' benefits including their mortgage, rent, credit card and utility payments. By taking advantage of this option, the average wage earner at Hope Healthcare will increase their take home pay by approximately $100 a fortnight ($2600 per year).
Salary sacrifice and personal contributions to superannuation
We allow staff to contribute personal, after-tax contributions, and to sacrifice pre-tax salary to any complying superannuation fund of their choice.
Meal entertainment benefits
Hope Healthcare provides staff with exempt (non reportable, non assessable, non taxable) benefits for meal entertainment and entertainment facility leasing expenses. There is no limit on the amount of meal entertainment benefits that can be claimed.
Novated leasing of vehicles
Hope Healthcare provides an option for staff to package a vehicle with an approved vehicle leasing company, as a fringe benefits option.
Other benefits
Driver safety awareness courses
Murcotts School of Driving Excellence has kindly offered immediate family members of Hope Healthcare staff to undertake driver safety courses at significant discounts from the usual retail price, by granting access to our corporate rates. Help keep your family safe by learning effective and easy to learn safe driving principles and techniques.
Mortgage brokerage services
Mortgage Choice, one of Australia’s leading and multi-award winning home loan broking firms, provides staff of Hope Healthcare with free mortgage brokerage services, either on site at Hope Healthcare, at Mortgage Choice facilities, and even at home.
Portability of public sector entitlements
As a ‘non-declared Affiliated Health Organisation’ we operate as public hospitals and staff have the same rights and conditions of employment as staff in public hospitals in NSW. This means that you can transfer leave entitlements and recognition of previous service from previous employment in a public hospital, to Hope Healthcare. Similarly if our staff choose to leave to work in another public hospital, their service and entitlements can be carried with them.
Immunisation Strategy
Hope Healthcare has an established staff immunisation program in place as a preventative strategy. Immunisation programs are free to all staff, regardless of occupation.
Occupational Health & Safety
Hope Healthcare invests significant time and resources to help ensure a safe and healthy work place. We systematically identify and control hazards to reduce the risk of injury or illness to all people on Hope Healthcare property. This includes an extensive orientation and continuing mandatory training program with an emphasis on safe work practices and methods, and manual handling including the use of related equipment and Train the Trainer programs. All our facilities undergo ACHS surveys and Numerical Profile audits that measure the effectiveness of our management of OH&S issues, and provide frameworks for continuous improvement.
Our Code of Conduct & Ethics
Our Code of Conduct & Ethics is based on our Christian values and ethos, and on legislative requirements to provide a framework for behaviour within Hope Healthcare. We are committed to ensuring that our values are more than just words on a page; that they become part and parcel of the way we do all our work. The Code underpins our commitment to how we manage and act as staff towards one another, and towards the patients and clients who are under our duty of care.
