Aged Care Psychiatry
Aged Care Psychiatry (also called psychogeriatric and mental health care for older people) services are offered at Greenwich and Braeside Hospitals.
Our Aged Care Psychiatry service offers a comprehensive inpatient and outpatient program to older patients with mental health problems including dementia with severe behavioural disturbances or other mental health issues.
The aims of the service are to provide comprehensive multidisciplinary assessment, treatment and management of patient with a view to appropriate placement back into the community. Support for carers and community follow-up is an important aspect of the service.
Care is provided for 16 inpatients at Braeside and 20 inpatients at Greenwich Hospital, in a structured and safe environment with mainly single rooms, a lounge/dining and outdoor areas for patients incorporating special design features to reduce confusion and allow monitoring of difficult behaviours.
